On Sunday, March 15th, hubby Todd, dog Summer and I hiked for 45 minutes in on the Petty Harbour-Motion Head trail and back. It was awesome to get a hike in this early in the season. I need for it to be somewhat warm and the trails in fairly good condition before I attempt. Hubby, on the other hand, can hike all winter long.

The trail was in pretty good shape, a bit of ice here and there but in most areas, the ground was frozen and dry. When hiking at this time of year, you need to dress in layers as it may seem warm when starting out (esp on this hike as you head uphill) but it gets pretty cold around shore where it is more open. I wore my windbreaker with a hoodie and long sleeved shirt but had to add my down coat around shore. Hubby only took his windbreaker so he was feeling the chill later on. And who's the avid hiker? You decide.

Now you may be thinking, why not go all the way to Motion Head? Well, it was a social kind of day with St. Paddy's festivities on the go and we were scheduled to meet friends downtown earlier in the day. So we took in some Irish festivities and then headed on a hike to clear our heads. But it was late, around suppertime, so we wanted to get back before dark. Plus I wanted to go back downtown for more celebrating. That's another story for another Blog.
So here we are hiking in March. Now how cool is that? I had forgotten how awesome it is to be out on the trail breathing in the fresh air, taking in the beautiful view of our surroundings. The plan is to get many more hikes in this year so stay tuned!
